Time Path (Zeitschneise), Weimar 1999

On one side of the Ettersberg is situated the castle of Ettersburg, duchess Anna Amalia's ancient castle of the muses, centre-point of the humanistic mentality of German classics where humanists from all over Europe loved to meet in the 18th and 19th century.

On the north side of the hill, the concentration camp of Buchenwald was erected in 1937. The wood on the hill hides one place from the other. Between the two: starlike hunting paths laid out by the dukes of Weimar in 1734 and overgrown in the course of time. One path was cleared in its full length between 1997 and 1999.

For the one who uses this track, the “path through the forest” becomes a “path through time” (Zeitschneise).
